Quick Questions?

Common questions before your first session

Individual and Couple sessions are typically 60 minutes. Group sessions run for 90 minutes.

Initially, weekly sessions are recommended. As progress is made, we may adjust to bi-weekly or monthly sessions.

Please provide 24-hour notice for cancellations. Emergency situations are always understood and accommodated.

Confidentiality is an important part of therapy and helps create a space where you can speak openly and safely about your experiences. What you share in sessions is held with care, privacy, and respect, with a few ethical and legal exceptions such as situations involving risk of harm, abuse, or when disclosure is required by law. The first session often includes understanding the structure of therapy itself — confidentiality being one of the important foundations that helps make the therapeutic space feel safe, consistent, and trustworthy.

Therapy is a deeply personal process, and there is no fixed timeline for how long it should take. The duration often depends on your needs, the kind of support you are seeking, and the depth of exploration you wish to engage in. For some, therapy may offer short-term support around a particular concern, while for others it may become a longer journey of reflection, healing, and personal growth.

I see counselling and psychotherapy not as opposites, but as existing on a spectrum — with each serving different needs at different moments in a person’s life. Counselling may focus more on present concerns, emotional support, and navigating immediate challenges, often through shorter-term and more here-and-now conversations. Psychotherapy, on the other hand, may move into deeper patterns, exploring how past experiences and relationships continue to shape one’s present life. Neither is more important than the other; the process is always guided by what feels meaningful and supportive for the client at that time.

Yes, I offer both in-person and online sessions to accommodate different preferences and circumstances.

Absolutely. All sessions are completely confidential, following professional ethical guidelines and legal requirements.

We’ll regularly check in on your progress and goals. You should notice gradual improvements in your well-being and coping skills.

The first session is usually a gentle beginning — a space for us to understand what brings you to therapy, what you may have been experiencing, and what support might look like for you. It is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of the therapeutic space, ask questions, and see whether the process feels comfortable and supportive for you. At times, we may also speak a little about your personal history or life experiences, not to dwell on the past unnecessarily, but to better understand the contexts and experiences that have shaped you and your journey.

Sessions are usually scheduled once a week, as consistency often helps build safety, continuity, and depth within the therapeutic process. However, the frequency can vary depending on your needs, therapeutic goals, and the kind of support that feels most helpful for you at a particular point in time.
